Absurd Vancouver Property (March 14, 2013)

I feel like $4 million is a good amount of money to spend on a luxury home…That kind of money affords one a certain kind of lifestyle, I would assume (I have to assume because I don’t actually know!).

In Georgetown, Washington, $4 million buys you this mansion, which formerly housed the Field School (a distinguished prep school):

Absurd Vancouver Property: Canada’s most expensive home…the “Vancouver Versailles”

The second most expensive mansion to ever be listed in Canada is situated in, you guessed it, Vancouver.  Well, West Vancouver to be precise.

At $37.9 million, the home is being called a complete “tear down” with value only being in the land.

I can’t imagine why…it’s just so gorgeous!!

Absurd Vancouver Property (February 7th, 2013)

Well (*claps hands and rubs them together*), things should be getting fired back up again after the Christmas slump in Vancouver Real Estate.

Prices are taking a bit of a dip, however.  Wonder what $1.3 million will get you these days.

In LaLa Land, you can scoop up the former home of American Idol contestant, David Cook:

Vancouver named the most expensive city in North America

According to the latest Worldwide Cost of Living Survey from the Economist Intelligence Unit, Vancouver is the most expensive city to inhabit in North America ahead of Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.  I wasn’t surprised to see Vancouver on this list, but didn’t expect it to come up ahead of these major U.S. cities.

According to the survey, there are 20 cities worldwide that are more expensive to live in than Vancouver.  I thought it would be interesting to know what a million dollars would buy you in the top five most expensive cities…as we know in YVR it gets us a crack shack on a tiny pile of dirt.

5. Melbourne, Australia

Just over a million dollars will get you this charming half-duplex in sunny Melbourne:

Absurd Vancouver Property (November 23, 2012)

It’s Black Friday…and seemingly we’ve now adopted this tradition in Canada.  I’m not sure when that happened, but we sure do like to copy what our pals down south are doing, so I guess it was just a matter of time.  There are a few bargains happening in various markets – some decent celebrity abodes up for sale.  Are you wondering if the same is applying up here in Vancouver?  Seemingly our market is stagnating…great news if you’re a buyer who’s been patiently waiting and, hopefully, saving your pennies.

Check out this Silver Lake (L.A.) property recently put on the market by Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation).

Sold for just over a million dollars, the 2,171 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 1.75 bathroom home is stunning inside and out. Read more…

Absurd Vancouver Property of the Week (August 23, 2012)

I awoke this morning to rain.  For some reason, Porky Pig’s voice from the old Looney Tunes cartoons was in my head…

Is that all? Are the curtains closed on our summer here in Vancouver?  My thoughts turned to warmer climates…and, of course, houses.  What if summer never had to end — where would you live? Read more…

Absurd Vancouver Property of the Week (July 18, 2012)

I remember back in the day The Barenaked Ladies sang about being rich and what they would buy if they had loads of money.  Because, a million dollars is loads of money.  The line was, “If I had a million dollars…I’d buy you a house.”  Now what kind of house do you think the Barenaked Ladies had in mind?
