The Five Most Expensive Homes in Vancouver

This week, BC Assessment released it’s list of the most expensive homes in the province.  Surprise, surprise…the top 5 were all located in Vancouver.   I wonder if the wealthy people who own these homes wonder what they could have bought elsewhere for the same amount of money?  Do the rich also find Vancouver properties Absurd or is this more of an apples to apples comparison?  Let me know what you think.

#5 – 4857 Belmont Avenue, Vancouver – $24,590,000

4875 Belmont

This home is located on nearly 3 acres and has 5 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.  Looks like it could use a bit of landscaping, though.

In Beverly Hills $24.5 million could by you the home of fashion mogul (Guess jeans) Georges Mariano.  His estate has 2 guest houses, maids quarters, a sunken tennis court and pavilion, terraces, pool/cabana, and over 2 acres of lush gardens, lawns and pathways.

#4 – 5695 Newton Wynd, Vancouver – 25,420,000

5695 Newton Wynd

This home has 8 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.

For $25 million, you could also own director Steven Spielberg’s East Hampton’s home, which (aside from over a dozen bedrooms) features a state of the art film studio, stables, and a guesthouse.

#3 - 4719 Belmont Avenue Vancouver – $25,513,000

4719 Belmont

This home sits on an almost 60,000-square-foot lot. It has six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

In Lake Tahoe, $25.5 million could buy the infamous Osprey Estate, recently purchased by PeopleSoft and Workday cofounder David Duffield.  The lakefront home, complete with 6 car garage and indoor pool,  is 7100 square feet and sits on over eight acres of land.

#2 – 3085 Point Grey Road, Vancouver – $35,168,000

3085 Point Grey - Chip Wilson

This yet to be completed home belongs to Lululemon founder, Chip Wilson.  It sits right on Vancouver’s Point Grey Road waterfront, with unobstructed views of the water and mountains.  Chip combined two already very large lots together to make for roughly 2/3rds of an acre.

In Los Angeles, Ryan Seacrest recently purchased the home formerly owned by Ellen DeGeneres.    Along with the main house, there are two guesthouses, a three-bedroom house separate from the main house, a swimming pool, a pond, lots of trees, and a lot of grass.  Seacrest got a deal…the home was originally listed for $60 million.

#1 - 4707 Belmont Avenue, Vancouver – $39, 269,000

4707 Belmont

This 2007-built, 1.7-acre home has 10 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms.  17 bathrooms!! The mansion also includes a 13,534-square-foot lap-pool, a 4,705-square-foot squash court, and a 665-square-foot porch.

An alternative to this home would be the Italian estate owned by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.  It looks like a bit of a fixer-upper, but I’m sure they can afford it.

Situated in the Northern Italian hills of Valpolicella, the property boasts 18,000 square feet and 15 bedrooms, seven baths, a movie theater, two swimming pools, a gym and several Jacuzzis.  The property also has stables and a vineyard.

What do you think?  Once you hit a certain point in real estate is it all the same…or do you think mega-bucks stretch farther elsewhere??

I’d rather have a $25 million home in Southern California or Italy than a $25 million home in Vancouver! It doesn’t matter how much the house is…you still have to deal with the same sh**ty weather regardless of the house price.
At least Ryan Seacrest gets to live in California sunshine and Brad and Angelina get to live in ITALY!

    Vancouver…are you F***ING KIDDING ME?!!

  2. Keeley Saunders says:

My question is why so many bathrooms?! Most normal houses have more bedrooms than bathrooms. All I think of is man that would be a lot of toilets to clean. Obviously for someone else if I could afford the price tag!

  3. Stacy says:

Wow – no idea that monstrosity belonged to Chip Wilson. That thing has been an absolute eyesore since it began. I feel sorry for the neighbors across the street who have had their view completely obstructed. Maybe it will be nice when its done but all it says now is TACKY.

  5. Pauline says:

For me the whole point of having money would be having some space for a nice garden and not be in a packed neighborhood like that Chip Wilson house or 4719 Belmont Avenue, those houses are so big the lot is barely enough! I guess I would rather buy ”just” a $20M home and a chopper to commute into town when needed, like Brangelina in Italy.

  6. Katy says:

Oh Vancouver I love this city but for those prices I would rather live elsewhere on a sprawling estate and not in a cramped neighbourhood.

  7. John says:

    Belmont Avenue looks awfully crowded.
#3 house looks like it’s built eye level to the next door neighbour’s house. I guess the folks can chat about their $25.5 million bargains
