The REAL Real Housewives of YVR: Stephanie Redivo

Stephanie is my pal.  We met over a year ago when we both participated in the Women in Leadership Mentorship program.  After discovering we were two of the…ahem…oldest mentees in the group, we became quick friends.  Steph is funny, honest and warm.  She’s Italian and I’m Irish…so we both come from powerful women stock!  The fact that we both love wine helps our friendship along nicely, also!  Stephanie is a working mom, accomplished marathon runner and all around go getter.  Basically…she rocks.

What characteristics define the Vancouver Housewife?

Sarcasm and attitude without a doubt.  In order to live in this city you need at least 5 umbrellas, a MEC raincoat, a pair of Hunters, a specialized light for seasonal affective disorder and a muddy buddy for your child.  You all know what I am talking about!

Are you a good representation of a Vancouver Housewife? Why?

No I do not derive all my income from previous divorces.  I am only married to 1 man and it is the same man for the last 8 years.  My version of jet setting is getting a 3 dollar coffee at 49th parallel.  I still have my own face and I could not be in the wax museum.  I like my friends and my nails are not long enough to scratch someone’s eyes out.

Do you feel that living in Vancouver in some way defines who you are? Please explain.

  1. In some respects. I’m from a small town in BC, but I’ve lived here since the early 90’s. And I think of myself as a big city person now. I don’t think I could go back to a small town.

Have you ever had cosmetic surgery, Botox, Restalyne injections, etc.? If so, please provide details. If you haven’t had any of the above procedures performed, would you consider it?

Do you consider EVLT surgery?  No I have not but I am definitely not opposed to it as I am 37 every month it becomes more of a reality.  I truly believe you should not have to look your age.

Other than your children (if applicable), what is the accomplishment of which you are most proud?

Going back to school to get into IT when my background was psychology and sociology, running a marathon in 4 hours 18 minutes and 59 seconds and being able to make a hot meal 5 days a week while still working a full time job.  Let me clarify a hot meal can be anything from scrambled eggs on toast to roasted chicken.

Has the desire for affluence/power/money been a motivator in the choices you’ve made for your life?

Absolutely money… well, actually it was the desire to avoid poverty associated with large student loans from university. So, what did I do? I took out more student loans in 2000 and went back to school. But it all worked out, the loans were paid off in a few years, met my future husband, and got to work all over North America and Europe.

Tell us about your stuff. What do you like to buy, collect, etc.?

Makeup, makeup and more makeup.  If I am done with makeup then there is nothing better than a great hat.

Do you have “staff” in your home? (E.g. nanny, driver, chef, etc.)

Does a cleaner once every 2-3 weeks count? I am the chef, my husband is the driver, and I’m also the nanny.

Do you belong to any clubs, teams, groups or social organizations?

Does a membership to Mount Pleasant Community Centre or Douglas Park community centre count?

Finish this sentence: “My life’s motto is ….”

My life’s motto is to think positively and win with grace.
