Land is at a premium…could this be where we are headed?
THIS. IS. REAL.
According to Geekosystem.com, “…a developer in Zhuzhou, China, the second largest city in the Hunan province, has actually built a set of houses on top of a shopping mall. It’s a perfect solution, really, for someone who loves or needs to live in the city, but wants suburban comforts like a lawn and personal privacy.”
I think the novelty of being able to walk to the food court for breakfast, lunch and dinner would wear off pretty darn fast.
Are you f*%#ing kidding me??!!!

oh god.
Actually, I think that it’s a creative way to use space. I’d rather see housing (preferably affordable and social housing) on top of a mall, than a parking lot.
Seriously doubt the air quality is that great up there (especially in China).
I think this is brilliant. If only those that have an over inflated sense of entitlement in the western world would realize that the suburban estate is not only the worst thing for our environment but also given the increasing population, not realistic. I love your blog and do enjoy reading it most of the time but occasionally it seems like you are reaching a bit far for the sensational and not fully thinking things through.
I don’t think it’s reaching to think most people would find this intriguingly funny. And, yes, I do think that we need to think outside the box, in terms of housing…I would just never want to live in a house on the roof of a mall! Glad you enjoy my blog (most of the time)!
Lots of convenient jumping off points on the perimeter; which I think people will want to do after living there a while….
Also what happens when the Mall becomes derelict due to the seemingly unstoppable advance of internet shopping?
The sound of the air conditioners will be very special.
